Duathlon consists of running and cycling. Over the full olympic distance competitors run 10km, bike 40km, and finish off with a 5km run. Experienced triathletes often compete in duathlons as training for their triathlon season, as duathlons employ all the skills triathlons require, other than swimming: 10km and 5km running, 40km road biking, transition skills, and the ability to quickly utilise a different set of muscles between biking and running. The shorter sprint distance duathlons employ the same skills over shorter distances: 5km run, 20km bike and a final 5km run.
The sprint distance duathlon covers the same route as the standard distance event and does not miss any of its unique features. Single sport competitors, the runners or the bikers, the novice duathletes, or the experienced duathletes wanting to concentrate on shorter distances are encourage to enter this event. Runners or cyclists who would like to compete in a duathlon but dont fancy doing both disciplines could enter with a friend as a relay team. Relay teams are welcome to enter either the standard or sprint distance duathlons.
Also on offer is the opportunity for 5k and 10k runners to take advantage of a run through this beautiful estate.
Competitors who enjoy running and cycling through beautiful settings will enjoy the tree lined traffic free avenues of the Althorp Estate with the quiet roads between the Northamptonshire villages of Little Brington and Great Brington.
10k run is 2 laps, and 40k bike is 2 laps. Click on the pictures below for larger images
