On Your Marks Events have teamed up with The National Trust, Stowe School and Stowe Enterprise to bring you this sprint, standard and middle distance triathlon in the stunning grounds of Stowe House and Gardens.
A visitor attraction since the 18th century, Stowe House and Landscape Gardens form one of the greatest estates in Europe and have welcomed many literary, political and influential people as well as royals from around Europe. Stowe House and Gardens are a major work of architecture on an immense scale which has inspired, and contains the work of, a number of leading 18th-century designers including Vanbrugh, Adam, Gibbs, Kent and Soane. The Landscape Gardens were given to the National Trust with an endowment in 1989 in order that they could restore the forty listed monuments and temples and increase access for the public. Today, Stowe House is open to the public and allows a unique glimpse into the Neo-Classical world of Stowe.
Following registration competitors will be briefed on the North lawn by transition before going down to the swim area which give you an awesome first impression of the area you will be swimming, biking and running. Swim briefing will follow and competitors will start in the water with one (750m), two (1500m) or 3 (1900m) laps around the lake's 4 buoys.
Middle distance swimmers set off together in the first wave on a 633m 3 lap course. The buoys will then be re-set for the olympic and sprint distance swimers who will set off together in the next wave on one or two laps around the 750m course. Shoes will be placed in a numbered bag and racked at the swim transition area near the swim exit point ready to pull on for the 1km run through the golf course up to the main transition area. Following the swim competitors may remove and store their wetsuits at the swim transition area and run with their kit bags up past the Rotondo and through Stowe School to transition on the North Lawn.
Following T1 the bike route exits Stowe Gardens along the tree lined Oxford Avenue and follows a route through Buckinghamshire and Northamptonshire villages of Chackmore, Akeley, Whittlebury, and Silverstone, passing the famous Silverstone Circuit. Sprint distance competitors will complete one circuit, olympic distance two, and middle distance 3 circuits. There will be a refreshment station at Akeley whereby riders can refill their bottles.
The run route winds its way around most of the 40 temples and monuments and lakes of Stowe Gardens. The standard distance competitors do this 4.2km run circuit twice and the middle distance five times before finishing on the North Lawn. There will be two refreshment stations on the run route in addition to one in transition.
TriRunning are our official wetsuit suppliers for 2014 and offer 2XU and Orca, the leading brands in the Triathlon market, for hire or to buy. Their wetsuits are designed to make your swim faster by offering buoyancy. They can be hired for one, two or four weeks, or for a full season (April to September). If you prefer to purchase the wetsuit after the triathlon or the season then you can be confident that, if well looked after, this suit will last for many years. Both carry a 2 year warranty.
